Tuscany down under on Melbourne's outskirts
In the mid-19th century, some 2,000 Swiss-Italians from the cantons of Ticino and Grison joined the great European migration to the Australian goldfields.
Many settled in Hepburn Shire northwest of Melbourne and home to the largest concentration of mineral springs in Australia.
But, unlike Chinese and other non-English-speaking migrant groups that moved on when the gold ran out, the Swiss-Italians remained and prospered in Hepburn in the production of high-quality wine, cheese, fruits and vegetables.
Europe in OzBuilt in 1864, Heritage-listed Villa Parma is arguably one of Hepburn Spring?s most impressive architectural treasures.
Reminders of their influence can be found everywhere in Hepburn -- the Old Macaroni factory on Main Road, the Bathhouse/Pavilion Caf at Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve and at Parma House -- a stately two-story residence built in 1864 by viticulturist Fabrizzio Crippa.

Aberdeen's best fish ball shop to close
by Joyce Man
If you are a Hong Kong fish ball connoisseur, you know Tse Kee. And you are probably lining up at their doors right now for one of its last bowls of fish balls.
The family-run Aberdeen fish ball joint has been dishing out the Chiu Chow snack with soup noodles for 65 years. Now, Tse Kee is counting down to its March 31 closing date.
Faced with rising fish prices and staffing problems, the eatery has decided to shut it doors rather than compromise its commitment to fresh ingredients.
?Your fish has to be fresh, it's that simple,? says Tse Chan Wai-fong, the restaurant's matriarch.
Tse Kee has become an institution of Chiu Chow-style fish snacks. Fish balls, fish dumplings, deep-fried fish cakes and fish skins are all favorites of Tse Kee's regulars.

When Lady Gaga officially launches her Born This Way Foundation on February 29, she'll be joined by the one-time queen of daytime TV, Oprah Winfrey.

The singer and former talk-show host will be joined by Mother Monster's own mother, Cynthia Germanotta, at the Harvard University event to kick off the foundation, which aims to inspire young people. The affair will be captured for a future episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" on her OWN network. "My mother and I have initiated a passion project. We call it the Born This Way Foundation," Gaga said in a statement last November about the foundation, which takes its name from her hit single and album. "Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment." The foundation will work with a number of partners, including the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the California Endowment and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. According to the statement, the foundation will focus on "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change." "My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Mama Germanotta said. "She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society."

Chris Brown 'Birthday Cake' Cameo Was Rihanna's Idea
'She's my friend, so whatever she wants to do is whatever she wants to do,' song's writer The-Dream tells 'RapFix Live.'

Fans were shocked and outraged when they heard Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" remix with ex-beau Chris Brown. The-Dream, who wrote the song, admits that he was a bit surprised when Rihanna told him that she'd like to include the man who once assaulted her on the track, but the "Shawty Is a 10" singer was far more understanding than RiRi's detractors.

"At the end of the day, she's my friend, so whatever she wants to do is whatever she wants to do," The-Dream told Sway when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday (February 22), just two days after Rihanna released the controversial remix. The-Dream remembers first getting the call from Rihanna while driving in Miami. "I think I'm gonna put Chris on it," he remembers the Talk That Talk singer saying to him over the phone nonchalantly. "I don't know which Chris you talkin' about, [but] OK, cool, whatever you say," The-Dream remembers responding. Of course there is really only one Chris, and The-Dream came to grips with the reality that the two would be coming together in song after the damaging 2009 assault that left Rihanna battered and bruised and Brown public enemy #1. "She's pretty smart too. The same questions that went through my mind, and I'm an artist also, had to have gone through hers," The-Dream told "RapFix Live." "When she raised the question to me, I know she's not crazy. So my thought was you've been thinking about this, you've already thought it out, so evidently you know what reaction you gonna get."

The singer/songwriter said that he was just happy that she gave him enough forewarning that he too could prepare for any type of backlash. Still, despite the rumblings of whether or not Rihanna is sending the right message collaborating with Chris on "Birthday Cake" as well as Brown's "Turn Up the Music" remix, The-Dream said that it all boils down to forgiveness. "Don't say you know how to forgive when you don't," he warned. "Everybody knows what took place, cool. Have the power to really forgive if that's what it is. If not, stay on that side of the fence from the beginning." In no way did The-Dream condone Brown's behavior on that February night in 2009, but he does suggest that it is time for people to move on. "It's easy to kinda throw Chris under the bus all the time, but c'mon, man. OK, we get it," he said. Do you support Rihanna's decision to work with Chris Brown again? Leave your comment below!

Grammys Behind The Scenes: What You Didn't See
MTV News had a prime spot on the red carpet and inside Staples Center — here's what you missed if you were watching on TV.
By MTV News staff
Musicians Sir Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga attend The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center on February 12, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

MTV News spent hours interviewing artists and stars on the Grammy red carpet. After everyone was inside Los Angeles' Staples Center, some of the news team made their way backstage while the rest made their way to their seats. Here are some observations that anyone watching from their couch would never have seen: Pretty Please, More Pink: Inside Staples Center, they play highlights from past shows during commercial breaks. Pink's performance of "Glitter in the Air" captivated the audience so much that when they cut back to the show, the entire crowd groaned.

Mother Monster's Security Detail: Lady Gaga moved through the arena flanked by two bodyguards in order to make it safely to her seat in time for Recording Industry President Neil Portnoy's speech. Gaga was also safer than the Beatle in the house. Sir Paul McCartney had no protection during his dual-performance night. Get Up, Stand Up: The audience inside Staples Center seemed unsure of when to stand up and sit down all night. The minute Paul McCartney appeared onstage, all that uncertainty disappeared. One Step Behind?: While Chris Brown's footwork looked quite impressive on air, our source told us the vibe inside Staples was lukewarm after his physical performance. Join the Band: Many audience members were given arm bands with a Coldplay logo on it and told to put them on during the band's performance with Rihanna. The Standing O You Missed: When Tony Bennett won a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for his duet with Amy Winehouse during the pre-televised ceremony, the crowd rose to its feet. "We shouldn't be here. Our darling daughter should be here," Winehouse's father Mitch said after embracing Bennett. On the Bubble: The night's big winner, Adele, was chewing gum backstage after her triumphant performance of "Rolling in the Deep." That applause you heard on TV was no joke. The crowd inside Staples was blown away. +Jennifer Hudson Channels Whitney Houston
Nicki Minaj Resurrects Spooky Roman Zolanski
+Adele Stages Thrilling Comeback Stick with MTV News all for all the Grammy red-carpet fashion, Grammy winners and Grammy news until the hangover wears off!

The Korean godfather of charcoal-roasted coffee
Located on the outskirts of the quirky Heyri Art Village in the Gyeonggi province, Kaldi Coffee features the high ceilings, beautiful hand-carved wooden tables and chairs and rows of delicate glass siphon coffeemakers at the bar that would make it seem like the perfect coffee shop to spend a rainy day.
But when passers-by -- most of whom made the trip to see the various art galleries in the village -- walk in to order some coffee, they tend to be met with surprise, rather than the briskly efficient order-taking characteristic of most coffeeshops.
Also on CNNGo: Heyri Art Village: Korea's melting pot of creativity
Despite its appearance, Kaldi Coffee is not really a coffeeshop. In the coffee-obsessed Korean foodie blogosphere, it is known as ?the factory,? and the origin of charcoal-roasted coffee in the country.
?The taste is quite different than coffee made from beans roasted over gas fire,? says owner Seo Duk-sik, 54, of the unique method of roasting beans over charcoal. ?It?s subtler, and much more aromatic.?

Miley Cyrus' Parents Drop Divorce

After announcing their split last year Billy Ray Cyrus now says that he and his wife of 17 years, Tish, have decided to reconcile. "I dropped the divorce," Miley Cyrus' dad told the hosts of "The View" during a pre-taped appearance on the show airing Friday, according to USA Today. "I wanted to put my family back together." Cyrus, who appeared on the show to promote his new album, I'm an American, out in June, said he and his family are working out their problems. "Communication I think is one of the biggest problems that we as human beings have in this whole world," he said. "And I think for the first time me and my entire family are finally communicating with each other in a way that, it's been quite some time ... and to answer your question, things are really the best they've ever been." Cyrus also seemed to retract the statements he made in a GQ interview, in which he said that his and Miley's hit Disney series "Hannah Montana" "destroyed" their family. "I feel like I kind of got my Miley back in a way," he said. "I feel like we are the daddy and the daughter that we were before 'Hannah Montana' happened. I love 'Hannah Montana.' I love Disney. That didn't tear my family apart." The country singer did, however, say that fame had something to do with the family's troubles. "Now fame, fame is a different animal, you've got to be careful with that thing because it can ... all things considered, hey, it's all good."

Miley Cyrus May Release 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn,' Bret Michaels Says
Poison frontman says he expects the teen star's cover version to be issued as a single later this year.
By Jocelyn Vena

Last year, Miley Cyrus declared that she Can't Be Tamed. The album features a cover of the Poison classic "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" that the teen star recorded with the glam-metal band's frontman, Bret Michaels, himself. And now, according to Michaels, the track likely will be released later in 2011 as a single ... finally. The Poison singer told to E! News that Cyrus' label initially had intended to issue her version of the song as a single much sooner, but those plans were sidetracked thanks to a bit of tabloid drama involving Michaels. "The record label was supposed have to this huge humongous release of 'Every Rose,' " the rocker explained. "It was going to be Miley's next-step song, but because of that, they stepped back. It really bummed me out. I worked hard on that." The "that" he's referring to is his rumored affair with Miley's mom, Tish, which allegedly may have contributed to the short separation of Cyrus' parents. Now, with that relationship back on track, so apparently are plans to release the song, which seems to really please the Poison frontman. "I think this is the song that will cross her over," Michaels said. "If it happens, it's going to be a big hit." A rep at Miley's record label had not responded to MTV News request for comment about plans for the song's released as a single at press time. Last year, MTV News spoke to Michaels about working on "Every Rose" with Miley, and he really sang the teen star's praises in the music-cred department. "She's one of the few musicians — and I want to use that word, 'cause she can actually play and sing — she's one of the few people who can pull it off and give it her own flare and make it sound good," Michaels offered. "I gotta tell you something — she nailed the song. She really knew what she was doing. She got in there and picked the guitar up ... It was one of those nights that just worked. It was fun ... It's gotta be her taking 'Every Rose' and making it all hers." What do you think about Miley's cover of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" being released as a single? Tell us in the comments.

Chris Brown/ Rihanna Collabos Send 'Weird Message' To Fans
Fans weigh in on 'Birthday Cake' and 'Turn Up the Music' remixes and what working together again says about their relationship.
By Jocelyn Vena
Rihanna and Chris Brown in 2008
Photo: WireImage

When Chris Brown and Rihanna dropped their remixes of "Birthday Cake" and "Turn Up the Music," fans immediately began to weigh in on the collaborations and what they mean about the status of Ri and Brown's highly publicized tumultuous relationship. While the songs may serve as a distraction from their personal past (which includes Brown's assault of Rihanna in 2009), many of the music fans we caught up with in Times Square stood on two sides of the line. Some were willing to forget the past and enjoy the music for what it is, while others were not yet ready to forgive.

"They're both really good artists. I like Chris Brown a lot. He was down at the bottom during that time and then he came back up," James Hauser told MTV News. "So he's starting to do better." Cassy Cnegt pointed out the negative attention it could bring to both artists, rehashing a personal story line that doesn't seem to end. "I think there's going to be a lot of bad publicity about why she's doing it," she said. Another fan, Billy Titus, added, "His music's all right, but I think that she can do a lot better by herself than be with him." Jean-Yves thinks their collaborations show how far their relationship has come. "The fact that they're able to work together is a good sign for Chris Brown, as opposed to the animosity that was there before." However, Aliyyah notes that it's difficult to separate the music from the events. "Personally, I think it's a little bit awkward for them in terms of their relationship, because he did hit her and the world knows that, so it kind of sends a weird message to her fans — especially her women fans — to still support him in that way, but I guess it's not our life," she said, adding that Brown has built up a "bad boy" reputation and that he may be trying to get Rihanna to take him back. While music fans stand on both sides of the complex issue, one domestic violence expert tells MTV News that seeing these two artists work together again is "not surprising." "I don't know what the message [of the songs] is. I would like the message to be: 'People can change, and I will never be treated that way again and I will never treat anyone that way again.' If they had released a song saying, 'This is what this represents for us,' that would be such a much more fabulous, powerful story than not saying a word," Rita Smith, the executive director for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, said. "The content of the songs seems to be more in-your-face than something about, 'We're collaborating on something because we care about the way people treat each other.' That would have been the message that would have been nice to come out of this very public and tragic incident." What do you think of Chris Brown and Rihanna's recent collaborations? Grammys Flashback: That Happened Last Year
From Lady Gaga's egg to Katy Perry's wedding video, plenty of crazy went down at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

Lady Gaga arrives at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

The 54th annual Grammy Awards are just a day away and everyone in the MTV Newsroom is starting to get excited. Will Beyoncé" show up? How will Adele sound in her first major live performance since undergoing surgery to repair a vocal cord hemorrhage? What color will Katy Perry"'s hair be? What will Lady Gaga" wear? We can't wait to find out. But if last year's show is any indication, it's safe to say that just about anything could happen at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday night.

The quirk factor was high at last year's Grammys, and it got started long before a single award was handed out. Lady Gaga's red carpet arrival inside of a pearlescent egg carried by four scantily clad dudes wearing prosthetics on their faces and shoulders should have been reminder enough that the unusual is the norm at the Grammys. But in case it wasn't, the show itself delivered Muppets and Katy Perry on a swing. We've rounded up five big moments from last year's show to remind you why the Grammys are the craziest awards show of the year. » Lady Gaga arrives in that freakin' egg, er, "vessel."
Never one to just casually stroll the red carpet in a pretty dress, Lady Gaga went to great lengths to make every element of her Grammy appearance part of a larger art piece that culminated in the performance of her then-new single "Born this Way." It all started on the red carpet, when she arrived already inside her "vessel," later claiming to Jay Leno that she'd been in a state of artistic incubation inside it for 72 hours. (Did you just roll your eyes? We think you just rolled your eyes!) The pop star emerged to deliver a full-voiced — if otherwise joyless — performance of the song, which at the time was drawing heavy criticism for sounding maybe a little too much like Madonna's 1989 classic "Express Yourself," and went on to score three Grammys, including Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster. » Did Christina Aguilera fall down after that showstopping Aretha Franklin tribute?
Last year's ceremony kicked off with an Aretha Franklin tribute featuring Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams. The ladies delivered a rousing group performance of "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman" before launching into solos of "Ain't No Way," "Until You Come Back to Me," "Think," "Respect" and "Spirit in the Dark" and closing with "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" — tearing the roof off the Staples Center. Except all anyone wanted to talk about afterward was how Christina maybe slipped a little in her towering heels. The performance came just one week after Xtina botched "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XLV (luckily, Kelly Clarkson's rendition this year went smoothly), and it seemed like the "Beautiful" singer and "Voice" judge had fully redeemed herself after the debacle, delivering a fantastic vocal performance ... until she stumbled onstage, sending gossips into a tizzy that the singer may have been, we'll say, out of sorts during the performance despite much evidence to the contrary. Or maybe people just like a good near-fall? People get very excited when an entertainer loses her footing — don't they, Madonna? Anyway, while everyone tried to make Xtina's mini-tumble a bigger story than it was, the ladies earned a richly deserved standing ovation for their tribute to Franklin, who was rather ill at the time but has since recovered, lost a bunch of weight, gotten engaged and ended that engagement. (A year in Hollywood time is like five years in normal person time ... maybe that's why everyone is so afraid of getting older!) » Bieber performs big, loses Best New Artist to unknown jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding.
Justin Bieber's medley performance began with an acoustic strum through "Baby" but quickly segued into a raucous take on "Never Say Never," complete with breakdancing ninja acrobats, fire breathers and a cameo rap by "Karate Kid" star Jaden Smith. Biebs' mentor Usher even joined in on the fun for a pop-and-lock-heavy dance-off to his hit "OMG." But the real story with Bieber at last year's Grammys was that he lost. To Esperanza Spalding. A critically acclaimed but otherwise unknown jazz performer. Bieber didn't take the loss so well but his fans went even crazier, expressing the profound sadness they felt and bearing witness to their idol's defeat by hacking Spalding's Wikipedia page and changing her middle name to both "Justin" and "Quesadilla." One fan wrote, "Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?" while another scribbled, "So the Esperanza Spalding has only 8 thousand followers on twitter and how many does Justin Bieber has?" It seems someone forgot to tell the Belieber army that the Grammys are not a popularity contest (well, they're not supposed to be, anyway) and that one's amount of Twitter followers is not taken into account when deciding the winners. Duly noted! » Katy Perry performed the ballad "Not Like the Movies" while on a swing, playing video from her wedding to Russell Brand.
If you needed further proof that a lot can change in just a single year, look no further than Katy Perry's performance at last year's ceremony. Much like she did on her California Dreams Tour, Perry performed her ballad "Not Like the Movies" while sitting on a swing as video from her elaborate October 2010 wedding to Russell Brand was projected behind her. Though one would think a sweet performance like Katy's would shut the gossip mill down for at least a little while, the couple was already back to defending their strange union less than two months later when Brand co-hosted "Live!" with Kelly Ripa. By year's end, Perry and Brand's marriage was officially no more, and it made re-watching her performance from last year for the purposes of this article, um, kind of awkward. » Cee Lo performed "Forget You" with a bunch of Muppets (and Gwyneth Paltrow).
No, no one at your Grammy party spiked your drink. Cee Lo Green, wearing a crazy red bear suit and a rainbow fan of feathers (think peacock), really did perform his Grammy-nominated smash "Forget You" backed by a bunch of singing and dancing Muppets while Oscar-winning home health guru Gwyneth Paltrow writhed atop his piano. Oddly, the whole thing worked like gangbusters and was a big old ball of fun. (And when was the last time anyone associated the word "fun" with Gwyneth Paltrow? Such is the funky power of Cee Lo.) This year's show has the potential to outdo last year's in the water-cooler department with Rihanna and Chris Brown both set to perform under the same roof for the first time since, well, you know ... in addition to plenty of interesting collabos, including a special electronic dance music performance set to feature the Foo Fighters (right?), and whatever Lady Gaga decides to get into. What are you most looking forward to at this year's Grammys?
