Two and a half years on from its darkest day, Akihabara is set to open its roads again to pedestrians.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Public Safety Committee have announced that Tokyo's most popular electronics area will close to vehicles on Sundays from January 23, 2011.
The area had been one of Tokyo's few pedestrian areas, popular with locals and tourists, until the shocking events on Sunday June 8, 2008 -- known as the "Akihabara massacre" -- in which seven people died at the hands of Tomohiro Kato.
