Rihanna is set to be the musical guest on this weekend's "Saturday Night Live," but having appeared on the show twice before, the Talk That Talk singer is hardly an "SNL" newbie.

Not only has Rih dazzled in musical performances, she's also stirred up more than a few chuckles alongside Andy Samberg's low-talking character, Shy Ronnie. On a call with reporters on Wednesday (May 2), "SNL" head honcho Lorne Michaels dished that he's working to get Rihanna into a sketch or two for this episode as well.

"Yes, are hoping so," Michaels confirmed. "We'll know [soon]. I wish I could report on everything that's been written [and] if this were tomorrow, I could," he explained. "I know that there are a lot of things in the works, but I don't frankly know how they turned out. And I think it's our intention."

Rihanna's appearance on the show comes ahead of her big-screen acting debut in the action blockbuster "Battleship," which opens May 18.

Of course, whether or not Rihanna makes the final cut, the episode's host, NFL quarterback Eli Manning, will do his best to sling the laughs.

"He's both charming and radiates a certain kind of intelligence," Michaels said of the New York Giants star. "You sort of believe that he doesn't take himself that seriously. There's a sort of essential modesty with him, and that plays well with what we do."

As for Manning, who was also on the call, he's looking to older brother Peyton Manning — who hosted back in 2007 — for advice. "From Peyton, really, the main thing he said was, 'Just enjoy the week. It's a lot of fun.'

"It is work and you're doing something you're not quite used to doing, but he said, 'One thing you are used to doing is live [TV]," Manning recalled. "So, he said, 'Just enjoy being with the writers ... follow their guidance. They're the ones that are funny and know how to do this.' I'm very excited for it."

Would you like to see Rihanna in some new "SNL" sketches?
